Lemay is best known as the home of the historic Jefferson Barracks Park and National Cemetery – or simply “J.B.,” as locals refer to it. The 30-acre Lemay Park, at the intersection of Military and Fannie, serves as a community gathering place and is where summer youth camps and the National Night Out are held.
For a serious shopping fix, head to the newly expanded and renovated South County Center, which provides more than 130 shops and eateries – from Macy’s, Sears, Dillards and Borders, to JCPenney, Macaroni Grill (in the mall’s parking lot), Famous Footwear, and Yankee Candle Company. Additional shopping choices in Lemay include the Dierberg’s Plaza and several strip malls that line Lemay Ferry Road. More stores and restaurants can be found on Lindbergh Boulevard, where big-box favorite, Costco, as well as Target, the Marshalls Plaza, Pier One Imports and more, can be found.
Additional South County amenities include the Kennedy Recreation Complex (known to locals as “Kennedy Rec-plex”), which offers an outdoor pool, indoor ice-skating rink, tennis courts and creative playground, and the Quail Creek Golf Course. Also on Wells Road is St. Louis’s beloved Suson Park, where kids of all ages flock to visit the Animal Farm and its resident farm animals – for free!
